In 2005, The Football Association gave SOS Children’s Villages a very welcome early Christmas present, by announcing that the organisation will be one of its five official charity partners for 2006. The campaign exceeded the £12 million target, and ensuring that the real winners of this year’s World Cup are some of the world’s most vulnerable children. Funds raised will provide over 800 orphaned and abandoned children around the world with a new family home in an SOS Children’s Village as well as provide support for over 5000 children and 1000 families through additional community outreach programmes. The FA joined an impressive team, which nationally includes FIFA/SOS Ambassadors Wayne Rooney and Gordon Strachan as well as Celtic Football Club, alongside international ambassadors such as Andriy Shevchenko, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Jay Jay Okocha, Fabio Cannavaro, and Lucas Radebe.
